The Craft
From Thread
to Treasury
Every Sail Stitch garment is produced through a structured medieval clothing manufacturing process built for Renaissance vendors, pirate shirt wholesale orders, and historically accurate collections.
Order Confirmation & Proforma Invoice
The process begins once we receive an order from a partner or fair vendor. Our team reviews garment style, size breakdown (US/EU sizing), fabric and colour requirements, accessories and trims, and desired delivery timeline. We generate a Proforma Invoice and request advance payment to commence production.
Fabric & Accessories Procurement
We source historically appropriate fabrics from our in-house fabric shop or trusted suppliers. This includes trims and decorative elements, metal, bone, wood or horn buttons, cords, laces, and ties. Wherever possible, we prioritize natural breathable fabrics and historically accurate materials to maintain authenticity.
Fabric Dyeing & Conditioning
Before production begins, fabrics are carefully prepared to ensure consistent colour and performance. Fabric scouring removes mill oils and impurities. Dyeing in controlled dye baths achieves historically inspired tones. Colour fixing improves dye durability. Washing, conditioning, and shrinkage stabilization ensure proper behaviour during cutting and stitching.
Pre-Production Quality Control
Before production begins, materials are inspected by our quality control team. Checks include colour consistency across fabric rolls, fabric strength and weave quality, dye stability, accessory quality and durability, measurement accuracy of trims, and size and pattern of buttons. Only materials that pass inspection proceed to production.
Workshop Production — Pattern Cutting & Assembly
Each garment is cut according to pre-approved patterns based on US/EU sizing standards. Patterns are carefully laid out to ensure accurate sizing, efficient fabric usage, and symmetry of design elements. Cut pieces then move to stitching stations where skilled artisans assemble each garment with precision and care.
Final QC, Finishing & Dispatch
Completed garments undergo final quality inspection — checking measurements, stitching integrity, button alignment, and overall finish. Garments are then cleaned, folded, tagged, and packaged securely for dispatch. We ship worldwide to fair vendors, LARP retailers, and costume brands.

From the moment an order is received to the final packaging and shipment, each step is monitored by our production and quality control teams.
